CONSULTANCY TO
DEVELOP A HUMAN RIGHTS-BASED APPROACH(HRBA) TRAINING MANUAL
Through this consultancy, HRCU seeks a resource that can be used repeatedly in recruit, in-service and supervisory training and support the integration of HRBA into institutional curricula. The manual will complement the legal compendium and operational checklist by providing guidance on how to teach and apply the relevant principles and standards. Its intended contribution is to strengthen professional judgement, institutional learning and accountability in the delivery of police and prison services.
The manual will also connect operational practice with oversight and accountability. It will help trainees understand the respective roles of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, the Judiciary and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, and how engagement with oversight institutions and civil society can support monitoring, referral and corrective action. This will complement the project’s support to coordination platforms, including chain-linked committees, human rights working groups and a national forum addressing accountability in security operations. VOLUNTEER – LEGAL PLACEMENT AT HRCU
HRCU invites applications from qualified and motivated individuals for a Volunteer Legal Officer position. The successful candidate will support the organisation’s human rights advocacy, legal research, policy analysis and documentation of human rights violations. This opportunity is ideal for individuals passionate about human rights, access to justice and the promotion of the rule of law in Uganda. The volunteer- Legal will among others be responsible for contributing to legal research, analysis, advice on legal issues, investigations and generally supporting the legal Aid function of HRCU.
HRCU is a registered Legal Aid service Provider by the Uganda Law Council and as such is mandated to provide legal aid, referrals and representation of HRCU clients. Read more here
CONSULTANCY TO UNDERTAKE A THEMATIC STUDY ON THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT OF NGOS AND CBOS SUPPORTING ARTISANAL AND SMALL-SCALE MINING COMMUNITIES IN KARAMOJA, UGANDA.
The purpose of the consultancy is to undertake an evidence-based thematic study of the working environment of NGOs and CBOs supporting artisanal and small-scale mining communities in Karamoja, identifying the legal, regulatory, institutional, financial, operational, civic space and protection factors that enable or constrain their work. The study will generate practical recommendations for improving the operating environment of civil society organisations and strengthening their contribution to human rights protection, community participation, accountability and inclusive mining governance.
