HRCU is licensed by the Law Council to provide legal aid services and is also a member of the Uganda Law Society, Legal Aid Service Providers Network (LASPNET) and National Coalition for Human Rights Defenders Uganda (NCHRD-U).

Services provided: HRCU provides professional, practical and sound legal advice, legal assistance, counselling, Court representation to Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) and referrals to partner organizations through an established and strong network with other legal aid service providers like LASPNET.

Mode of receiving legal aid clients: HRCU receives clients either through walk-ins at its office premises, call-ins on its toll free line 0800-333000, referrals from other human rights institutions/organizations or as emergency response cases.

Through media engagements like radio talk shows, the toll free line 0800 333 000, incorporation of provision of legal aid services in all activities done by HRCU, IEC materials, partnerships and networks, the legal aid services are also made easily accessible to all persons.
